May 2003
The annual meeting of the VMHOA was held in the clubhouse on April 9th. Our president highlighted upcoming changes that included new metal light poles, light fixtures, and bulbs throughout the HOA. The savings in electrical usage, from 250 watts to 33 watts per bulb, will in time pay for the installation of the new poles. All old patio fences will be replaced by the end of the year and ten buildings will be painted over the summer months. The frontages yet to be replanted are an issue that will be addressed this spring and fall. Homeowners involved will be notified in advance. Questions concerning frontages should be addressed to Ed Abeyta, those concerning painting go to John Marsh.
Homeowners present were reminded of a previous board decision regarding the installation of double pane windows. The frames (aluminum or vinyl) must be dark in color to reflect the HOA's current color scheme.
Skip Kruszona, Steve Huddleston and John Marsh were returned to the Board for three-year terms. In a meeting of the newly constituted board, Patty Werdowatz was elected President. Other officers included Scott Linek as vice president, Skip Kruszona as chief financial officer, and Ed Abeyta as secretary. Board members given special areas of responsibility include Ed Abeyta, landscape; Alex Moore, pool and clubhouse; John Marsh, architecture and Steve Huddleston, parking. John Marsh remains the editor of the Monterey Message.
Within the next few weeks, the Association will begin replacing the "Visitor Parking" signs to meet the new City of San Diego code requirements. The signs will be larger and will be mounted on steel poles to prevent termite damage, which has plagued our old ones.
In support of our troops overseas, please honor the American flag by following the rules outlined by the U.S. Code.
Do not fly a flag that is worn out, torn or tattered. When a flag is no longer fit for display it should be destroyed in a dignified way, preferably by burning.
The flag should never be used as wearing apparel.
Is it appropriate to fly a flag that has fewer than 50 stars? Yes. There is nothing wrong in flying a historic flag.
The flag should never be used for advertising purposes in any manner whatsoever. It should not be embroidered on such articles as cushions or handkerchiefs and the like, printed or otherwise impressed on paper napkins or boxes or anything that is designed for temporary use and discard. Advertising signs should not be fastened to a staff or halyard from which the flag is flown.
It is the universal custom to display the flag only from sunrise to sunset on buildings and on stationary flagstaffs in the open. However, when a patriotic effect is desired, the flag may be displayed twenty-four hours a day if properly illuminated during the hours of darkness.
The flag should not be displayed on days when the weather is inclement, except when an all-weather flag is displayed.
The flag should never touch anything beneath it, such as the ground, the floor, water, or merchandise.
The flag should never be carried flat or horizontally, but always aloft and free.
The flag should never be fastened, displayed, used, or stored in such a manner as to permit it to be easily torn, soiled, or damaged in any way.
The flag should never be displayed with the union down, except as a signal of dire distress in instances of extreme danger to life or property.
The flag should never have any mark, insignia, letter, word, figure, design, picture, or drawing of any nature placed upon it, nor on any part of it, nor attached to it.
