June 2003
A member of the landscape committee reports that we have 253 trees on our grounds. And that doesn't include trees on the canyon side of the swale or trees lining the canyon walkways. Tristania, alder and liquidamber make up 60% of the total. Other varieties in order of quantity include ash, ficus, sycamore, liriodendron, jacaranda, melalucca, eucalyptus, bronze loquat, tipuana tipu, magnolia, mulberry, crape myrtle, pine, peach, and orange just to name a few!
The alders continue to die at a rate of 4 to 7 per year and several of the liriodendron are near the end of their life span.
Workmen are currently erecting new metal light poles throughout the HOA. Youngsters have discovered that when struck with sticks, these hollow metal poles give off a "music-like" sound. Parents, please teach your children to respect private property. Sticks cause scratches, which then require painting, which costs money…
…and the stones found in the artificial streambed between Outlook and Oakleaf are there for beautification of the landscape, not for throwing.
Did you know that plants, like people, run fevers when they're sick?
