Fun Stuff
- Why isn't iron added to milk?
- Iron fortified milk turns coffee green.
- What is America's most popular candy bar?
- Snickers!
- How old was Mozart when he wrote the melody, Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star?
- 5 years old!
- Alexander Graham Bell refused to have a phone in his study because the ringing drove him nuts.
- A New Yorker could eat out every night of his/her life and never eat at the same restaurant twice.
Window Replacement
Homeowners must submit requests for architectural changes for windows and doors to the Board of Directors on the appropriate form (call Preferred Property). Changes must be consistent with the prevalent dark framing of buildings in Villa Monterey HOA.
Guess the Holidays Really are Over
Although it's never as much fun as putting them up, a small group headed by Frank Toto took down our holiday decorations early in January. Our thanks to the many residents who donated decorations. Incidentally, we'll still accept items for next year and beyond. Call Frank Toto at 278-5950 if you have something to donate.
Vandalism Report
If you are wondering where part of your monthly fee goes, read on:
- One morning late in November while checking the clubhouse restrooms, board members found a substance all over the floor. It appears that someone pulled a fire extinguisher out of its holder and sprayed it all over the bathroom. The substance was very hard to clean up and the extinguisher needs to be recharged. Senseless, yes. Time and money were involved as well.
- Early in January fecal contamination was found in the jacuzzi. That meant, of course, closing the pool area for several days while draining and cleaning the affected areas. It appears that the individual(s) responsible also left an obscene message on the wall indicating that it was something other than an accident.
Clubhouse/Pool Stuff
- Concerning our story last month about the homeowner who misplaced the clubhouse key, the bill to re-key the clubhouse (necessitated by the security considerations) was in excess of $600! Clubhouse renters will be charged for lost keys, improper cleaning and/or any damages. So please be considerate when using this community facility.
- On a positive note, we had more than 50 rentals last year, more than we've ever had. If you haven't considered using it, you should. It's a great, inexpensive way to host a gathering that is too large for your home. The rental fee runs from $25 to $75 per event depending on the time and day of the event. The clubhouse has a pool table, fireplace, tables/chairs and a full kitchen with dishwasher, refrigerator and oven.
- By the way, we know it's tempting, but keep in mind that using the clubhouse does not include the pool area. This fact, as well as many others, is included in the Rules Manual that all homeowners should have received when they joined the community. Contact Preferred Property Managers if you need a copy. Observing the rules helps us to live harmoniously and maximize the enjoyment of our community.
- Dog walkers have been very good about cleaning up after their pets on the grass. However, they frequently don't clean up if their pets use the ground cover around the clubhouse/pool area. Please clean it all up. Thanks.
Canyon Cleanup
The Weststar work crew has been busy cleaning up the canyon to protect our homes from future fires. Their work begins as early as 8 a.m. even on Saturday. Please be understanding and patient. Their work is very important.
Tips for a Lifetime
- To prevent eggshells from cracking, add a pinch of salt to the water before hard-boiling.
- If you have a problem opening jars, try using latex dishwashing gloves. They give a non-slip grip that makes opening jars easy.
