April  2003

Annual Meeting

The Annual Meeting is scheduled for April 9th at 7:00 p.m. Registration will begin at 6:30 p.m. The meeting will be held at 5275 Rimpark Lane (Clubhouse). John Marsh, Ray Kruszona and Steve Huddleston are currently running for positions on the Board of Directors.

Meet Alex, New Board Member

Alex was born and raised just outside of Baltimore, MD and graduated from Grove City College, a small school in northwestern Pennsylvania. He moved to San Diego in 1996 because his wife to be was a Navy nurse stationed at Balboa Naval Hospital. Married in 1997, they rented for a while in Tierrasanta Ridge before purchasing their Villa Monterey home in 1999. They have a 2 year old daughter, a rottweiler, and are expecting a son in April.

Alex is a senior engineer for a biotech company. When not on the clock, he enjoys working with computers, skiing, playing golf, softball, tennis and football. He believes in working hard and playing even harder. He is excited about this opportunity and is looking forward to serving Villa Monterey as a member of the board.

New Property Manager

Kathy Michaels, owner of Preferred Property Managers, has recently taken over the management of VMHOA. Chris Olivas retired from this hectic business after many years of working with the Board and homeowners at Villa Monterey. Kathy has been in this business for over 15 years. She is the mother of six children who are spread across Minnesota, Colorado and California. She is the grandmother of six and her interests are photography, travel and golf. Please feel free to call her with any issues.

Temporary Closing of Rebolla Jacuzzi

The Rebolla Jacuzzi is scheduled for resurfacing on Saturday, March 22nd. The pool/jacuzzi area will be closed for three weeks to allow the new surface to set. Please do not enter until the recreation area gates are re-opened.

Special $50 Assessment

The March special assessment was the first of two $50 assessments this year devoted to replacing rotted wood. Trim boards over garages with flat roofs have developed rot over the years and need to be replaced. The 22-foot replacement board is a special order and the cost of each board is approximately $95. Over a dozen have been replaced in the past year.

Rafter Storage

The garages at the end of each building have pitched roofs. The walls are supported by 2 by 4 boards that are strung as rafters connecting the opposite walls (front to back). Above these rafters is a big inviting space which many residents inappropriately use for storage. Although this space might look like a bonus attic, the rafters are not designed to bear weight and should not be used for storage. Excess weight on the 2 by 4 rafters will pull in the walls, potentially causing serious damage, deflection or sagging to the roof outside.

Parking Violators Will be Towed

The Villa Monterey Rules & Regulations state, "All common area parking slabs are to be used for visitor parking. The maximum time permitted for a vehicle using the guest parking area is twice during a seven day period (maximum 24 hours each time). The seven day period begins with the date of the first citation. For a guest visiting longer than the above allotted time, a guest parking permit can be issued for a maximum period of seven days. Guest parking permits may be obtained from the management company." There are so many violations that the Board has decided that it must tow those cars in violation. If you have a question regarding the parking rules, contact board member Steve Huddleston.

Pray for our Troops

We know that some of our neighbors are overseas right now. We think about them and their families and the sacrifices they are making in supporting our country's efforts. If you would like to share information about a family member overseas, please send it to John Marsh.

Hard Water

Did you know that 11% of the planet or 5.8 million square miles is covered by glaciers? Thankfully, that does not include San Diego.
