March 2001

Happy St. Patrick's Day - March 17, 2001

Pool Stuff

The HOA swimming pool, which has excessive levels of dissolved solids, will be drained beginning the week of March 12, 2001 (subject to change pending weather conditions). The draining and refilling takes approximately 7 days. During this period, the pool gate will remain locked. The date of reopening will be posted. Residents can, of course, use the Rebolla Lane Pool.

Users are reminded that, for sanitary reasons, the eating of snacks is confined to the upper patio area. Please comply.

Garage Door Reminder!

Keeping your garage doors closed, except when entering or exiting, not only keeps the uniformity of the community intact, but it is also good practice for your own security! An open garage door is all open invitation for some unscrupulous person to invade your privacy - perhaps even help themselves to your belongings! While we want to feel secure in our homes and in our community, the reality is we all still must take certain precautions in protecting our possessions and ourselves.

Get Rid of Algae and Mildew

The damp winter months promote the growth of unsightly green algae and black mildew on stucco and cement surfaces. Left untreated, it can become a permanent stain.

Applying a half-water and half-bleach solution with a spray bottle will effectively kill both algae and mildew without damage to these surfaces.

Complimentary Aspects

Berkus designed Villa Monterey to quietly blend with its natural environment. Natural California textures of stucco, rugged re-sawn wood, and shake and cedar shingles are formed into unobtrusive architectural lines. The Clubhouse, saunas, and swimming pool appear to be equally at home among the greenery. Exteriors at Villa Monterey are maintained as well as the landscape. The time you might spend puttering around the house and yard can go towards pure pleasure, and agreeable exchange we are sure.

Midlife Sanctuary

Villa Monterey Townhomes provide a natural refuge from the hustle of work and the hassle of home ownership. Nestled in a very private section of Tierrasanta, Villa Monterey overlooks a natural canyon laced with hiking and biking trails, personal picnic spots, and untouched greenery. The open greenways and sculptured parks surrounding the Townhomes are tended by professionals. All you need maintained is your own ecological balance.

Carefree Inside As Well As Out

All electric kitchens, Hotpoint appliances, tile baths, forced air heating, garbage disposal, and facilities for washer-dryer are built to ease your way through the day. Floor plans work beautifully with contemporary or traditional furniture. Each townhome has its own private patio and an enclosed 2-car garage. The variety of elevations is what one might expect of Ponderosa Homes, a division of Kaiser-Aetna. After all, Ponderosa for years has researched California family living patterns and needs. Villa Monterey represents the most up-to-date benefits of environmental living. Naturally.

Clogged Faucet Aerator Screens? Your Water Heater May be the Culprit!!

Are you concerned about light-colored grit of "sand" collecting on faucet aerator screens? The particles can also form on filter screens of washing machines and dishwashers - adversely affecting their performance and energy efficiency.

The best advice offered is to have your water heater checked for sedimentation. Heat forces dissolved minerals to come out of solution, forming solids (mostly calcium carbonate), which settle o the bottom of the tank.

Over the years, these particles may build up to the point where they are discharged into the household plumbing system. While the substance is not considered harmful to your health, it can be a nuisance that can shorten the life of your water heater and appliances that use hot water.

Don't despair! In most cases, this problem can be corrected by simply flushing the sediment from the bottom of the water heater, then giving the filter screens and faucet aerators a good cleaning.

If your water heater is more than a few years old, we highly recommend you enlist the services of a plumbing professional to perform a water heater "tune-up", which typically includes checking for water, gas and ventilation leaks, flushing the tank and assessing the general condition of the water heating and distribution system to your home.
