Your Board is again looking for a pool monitor to work from the Memorial Day weekend through the Labor Day weekend. Those interested must be at least 18 years of age and be willing to work weekends. A pool monitor is not a lifeguard, but an individual with sufficient force of character to enforce the rules spelled out in the rules manual. Hours are staggered over a 40-hour week and the pay is $8.00 per hour. Those interested should apply to Tracie McKinney at 619/220-8773 immediately.
Experts say the conditions are just right and there are a lot of snakes out there this year. The ones to be concerned with, of course, are Rattlesnakes. Rattlesnakes prefer wooded areas near lakes and streams and usually shy away from areas where humans go. However, they will settle for wood piles and dense foliage near homes, too. If you are walking or working outside, wear boots. Rattlesnakes rarely strike above the ankle. Educate your children ... tell them never to touch a snake until it is identified. Most victims of snakes are nosy dogs who are sniffing around and get too close. If you come in contact with a Rattlesnake, leave it alone. If it is in your home or garage, or will not leave your property, call Animal Control for assistance at 619/236-4250.
In the rule manual, there is a list of behaviors that are prohibited. Please observe the rules and ask others to do so, if necessary. Signs hang in the pool area emphasizing the "do's" and the "don'ts." The rules are guidelines for acceptable behavior and a few of them can be relaxed, provided other pool visitors are not prevented from enjoying the pool and the pool deck and no breach of safety occurs. Officially, the pool opens at 8:00 a.m., but lap swimmers are permitted to swim quietly at 7:00 a.m., if they desire to do so. The pool is reserved for lap swimming only between 6:00 and 7:00 p.m. daily. During this time, lap swimmers have priority, others may be requested to wait.
The pool closes at 10:00 p.m. every evening and the gate is double locked. Pool lights will remain lit after hours to discourage unauthorized skinny dipping. Residents living next to the pool report humorous stories of people, mostly adolescents, who thought their late-night entry was unobserved. Often, to their embarrassment, late night visitors are quickly detected and escorted out of the pool by the security patrol.
For the enjoyment and safety of all, courtesy and common sense will be rigorously enforced.
Patty Werdowatz is a native of San Diego and grew up in Pacific Beach. She moved to Tierrasanta in 1972 and to Villa Monterey in 1983. She is a previous HOA Board Member and financial chair.
Patty graduated from San Diego State University with a BS in Nursing and has worked as a registered nurse and manager in the field of Women's Health for 35 years. She earned a Master's degree in Organizational Management at the University of Phoenix.
Patty has a son, a daughter, a son-in-law and two grandsons. Her grandchildren are her favorite hobby and are a great joy in her life.
Scott was born in Cleveland, Ohio, in 1971 and grew up near Lake Erie. After graduating from high school, Scott attended Bowling Green State University in Bowling Green, Ohio, and received his Bachelor's degree in Business Administration with a specialization in Accounting.
More importantly, while at Bowling Green, Scott met his bride to be. They were married in 1995. She had just received her Master's degree from Loma Linda University and Scott was in the midst of law school at Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. After freezing in Wisconsin, Scott graduated from law school in 1997 and, opting for the warmer weather and Southern California lifestyle, they both accepted positions in Los Angeles. In May 2000, Scott accepted a position as a corporate/tax attorney with Blanchard, Krasner & French in La Jolla. Shortly after moving to San Diego, they discovered Tierrasanta and moved into their home in January 2001.
They have two daughters, ages 2 years old 3 months old. Scott's interests include working out and playing a variety of sports. His favorite sport to play is basketball and his favorite sport to watch is baseball. Although he does cheer for the local Padres, Scott is an avid Cleveland Indians fan. Scott enjoys eating all kinds of ethnic foods, especially Mexican. Mostly, Scott enjoys spending time with his wife and two daughters.
Just what is an "A" unit in our homeowner's association? What a ('B" or a "C"? These terms - assigned by the builders - keep coming up and make sense only to Realtors or to Board Members, Here then is something by way of clarification. An "A" unit? We have only one and that was part of the model homes. I'm guessing it did not prove all that popular and thus the lone specimen. Get an early settler to show you where the "models" were and it's the end unit near Antigua.
"B" units--our most popular end unit--are distinguished by two largish upstairs bedrooms with bathrooms attached. As well, there's a half bath downstairs. "C" units--end units again--are one-story affairs with two bedrooms and a bath between. As well, there's a vanity in the larger of the two bedrooms. "D" units are distinguished by three bedrooms and a single bathroom on the 2nd story. There's a vanity in the principal bedroom and a half bath on the 1st floor. "E" units are readily recognized by what's usually referred to as " the bonus room." Look for that upstairs balcony--over the garage. That tells you "E", just as looking for a flat garage room tells you "D."
"F" units boast a "den" on the ground floor. As well, their principal bedroom is at ground level. Two other bedrooms and a bath are in the 2nd story. The "F' today seems our most popular model. But all have features that appeal. Not least are "upgrades" that owners have added over the years. Eye catching surely is the creation of recessed "housing" in the kitchen ceiling. Dated fluorescent light tubes are replaced by recessed fixtures and sometimes a ceiling.
