Opportunity Knocks

The increased use by renters of our clubhouse in the past year has led to your Board's rethinking its mode of operation. Presently, three individuals are involved in the clubhouse's cleaning and management: the latter include the clubhouse monitor, a cleaning lady, and our maintenance man. At its most recent meeting, the Board approved the combining of the duties performed by these individuals in the person of a clubhouse manager, who will be responsible for the cleaning, management and administration of the clubhouse operation. The Board has budgeted the manager's time at 700 hours annually and allocated $8.50/hr. for this position. Should any resident of the HOA be interested in applying, they can explore the possibility with either Frank Toto or John Marsh. Please do so no later that April 10, 2000. Note: the clubhouse manager-is the individual who deals With renters, with our security service, with service providers, and with Board members. It is an opportunity to make a difference in Villa Monterey. The combining of these functions into one person will save considerable resources, and will make possible a better functioning of the clubhouse operation.

Pool Table Talk

From time to time, homeowners lament not being able to use the pool tables in the clubhouse. The latter, of course, can be rented for that purpose but that doesn't really answer the queries that come our way. There is always the option for a homeowner to assume the responsibility for opening the clubhouse on a given night for a given period of time. Of course, that individual would assume the responsibilities of any renter for cleaning up after use. Anyone interested in taking such a responsibility should contact Frank Toto, our clubhouse chairperson.

A No, NO!!

While cleaning out the pool yard trash containers on Valentine's Day, I noted that one contained a number of glass beer bottles. Please, do not bring glass containers into the pool area. Should one break, especially at night, there is the real possibility that feet may be badly cut. And should glass shards get into the jacuzzi itself that only compounds the problem.

Has the Time Come...

...to clean your ducts? The latter are a series of galvanized metal tubes that run through the attic space in your home to carry heated or cooled air to each room. There are generally one or two "return" ducts that draw air from the house into the furnace or air conditioner, then the outlet ducts distribute it through the home. Depending on the amount of dust, dirt and pet fur in your home, debris can build up inside the ducts and be transported to each room in the house. This can be a serious problem if a resident is allergic to these substances. If that's the case, most allergists recommend that your air ducts be cleaned regularly. Pet owners note that this operation may need to be done yearly. Otherwise, every three to five years should be sufficient. For a duct cleaner consult our management company or the yellow pages.

Homeowner Input

One of the homeowners at the most recent meeting of the Board wanted to know is she could have access to more information than appears in the MONTEREY MESSAGE. She spoke of not being able to attend our regularly scheduled meetings. It was pointed out that the management company could furnish those interested, copies of our minutes but that there would be a charge for the latter. Regretfully, the Board concluded that there is no substitute for being "there" in person. Of course, those who wish can accompany our monthly landscape walk or our less frequently scheduled architectural walk. As well, any Board member will, on request talk with members about his/her area of responsibility: i.e.,Hugh Souder, Landscape; John Marsh, Architectural; Steve Huddleston, Parking.
