March 1999
Your Board is again looking for a pool monitor and an alternate to work from the Memorial Day weekend through the Labor Day weekend. Those interested must be at least 18 years of age and be willing to work weekends. A pool monitor is not a lifeguard out an individual with sufficient force of character to enforce the rules spelled out in our Rules Manual. Hours are staggered over a 40-hour week and the pay is $6 an hour. Those interested should apply to Marysia Leu at Curtis Management no later than April 1, 1999.
If you have not completed and returned the emergency-locator form that was in last month's packet please do so with your current bill. If you need another form just call Curtis. Again, this is not busy work. Your painting chair needs it as we get ready for yet another painting season. I can't tell you how many times I had to call someone at home or at work as we went about the business of installing garage doors.
Should you be interested in serving on the Villa Monterey Board of Directors, there will be three vacancies that must be filled at the April meeting. To run for the Board, fill in the form, that's included with this mailing. Then you, too,
Both architectural and landscape walks by Board members keep turning up broken window screens, and homeowners have been getting letters asking them to make the needed repairs. As a service, our maintenance supervisor is offering to pick up the screens in question and repair or have them repaired. He'll then return them to you and put them correctly in place. Of course, there will be a modest charge for his services.
The Board member who is in charge of parking in our common area is Steve Huddleston. If you have a problem or wonder why a car is parked where it is for extended periods of time, we suggest you call Steve.
A Villa Monterey garage has been/will be inspected by a city fire marshal for the presence of hazardous materials. It is a reminder to us all to look at what we have stored in our garages: oil-based paints, solvents, etc. Residents should give serious consideration to disposing of such items - not allowing then to remain for long periods of time, posing a potential fire hazard.

COMPLIMENTARY ASPECTS
Berkus designed Villa Monterey to quietly blend with its natural environment. Natural California textures of stucco, rugged re-sawn wood, and shake and cedar shingles are formed into unobtrusive architectural lines. The Clubhouse, saunas, and swimming pool appear to be equally at home among the greenery. Exteriors at Villa Monterey are maintained as well as the landscape. The time you might spend puttering around the house and yard can go toward pure pleasure, an agreeable exchange we are sure.
MILDLIFE SANCTUARY
Villa Monterey Townhomes provide a natural refuge from the hustle of work and the hassle of home ownership. Nestled in a very private section of Tierrasanta, Villa Monterey overlooks a natural canyon laced with hiking and biking trails, personal picnic spots, and untouched greenery. The open greenways and sculptured parks surrounding the Townhomes are tended by professionals. All You need maintain is your own ecological balance.
CAREFREE INSIDE AS WELL AS OUT
All electric kitchens, Hotpoint appliances Tile baths, forced air heating, garbage disposal, and facilities for washer-dryer are built in to ease your way through the day. Floorplans work beautifully with contemporary or traditional furniture. Each townhome has its own private patio and an enclosed 2-car garage. The variety of elevations is what one might expect of Ponderosa Homes, a division of Kaiser-Aetna. After all, Ponderosa for years has researched California family living patterns and needs. Villa Monterey represents the most up- to-date benefits of environmental living. Naturally.
A continuing search of our early records reveals yet another promotional pamphlet prepared by Ponderosa Homes. Here's just a bit of the pitch to attract buyers. Note too, the writer violates many of the dictates of traditional English grammar and mechanics.
Villa Monterey townhomes provide a natural refuge from the hustle of work and the hassle of conventional home ownership. Because Villa Monterey offers some decidedly unconventional features. Your home's exterior, for example. Not only does it display natural California textures of stucco, rugged re-sawn wood, and shake roofs, it also offers 'built-in" maintenance. Through the Homeowners' Association. By professionals. And your landscaping will receive professional care as well. So the time you otherwise would have to spend puttering around the house and yard can be put to better use - at your private recreation center. Where you can keep yourself in shape by swimming strenuous laps. Or laze the day away basking in the sun beside the pool. Or maybe relax in the sauna for a spell, to feel its warmth replacing the kinks and tension of a hard days work.
And there couldn't be a more beautiful setting for the exciting easy of life offered by condominium ownership. Nestled in a very private section of Tierrasanta, Villa Monterey overlooks a natural canyon laced with hiking and biking trails and unspoiled greenery.
