HOLIDAY GREETINGS TO ALL

I would like to take this occasion on behalf of the Board of Directors to wish you and your families a great holiday season.

In addition, a very special thanks to the Association Board and Committee Members. They served without recognition or pay throughout the year to improve your community. If you can contribute your efforts to the community in the New Year please get involved. Our community is only as good as our collective efforts.

Further, the remodeled Clubhouse is an outstanding location to host your Christmas or New Year's function. Call to make a reservation.

The Board looks forward to serving you in 1999.

Villa Monterey Homeowners Association

LOST & FOUND

Lost anything lately? On hand are: Seiko watch; pair of prescription sunglasses with neck cord and black case; a single silver filigree costume earring with missing stud; and some single keys.

ANCIENT HISTORY: 1977

Much of the Board's attention was devoted to our buildings: to things like nails pulling out the siding. Of course, they sought to hold Ponderosa Homes, the builders, liable. But the latter declined responsibility and by year's end, the Board concluded that it needed to find some $6,000.00 to undertake the needed repairs. Painting the complex was also a pressing concern and to accomplish both tasks the Board raised the monthly assessment to $50.00 as of November 1. Considerably harder was the job of convincing homeowners of the need for a special assessment of $250.00 levied on each homeowner.

Only when this point was carried did the Board enter into a painting contract for $44,000.00. For those individuals who couldn't wait and wanted to touch up the exterior paint of their units, the appropriate colors could be purchased in quarts and gallons from a volunteer in the Clubhouse.

NEW IN TOWN

We ask new residents, both owners and renters, to spend time looking at out regulations' manual and at the CC & Rs-especially the former. These documents govern the ways we do business in the HOA. They ask all our people to clean up after their animals, limit play activities on the pool greenbelt, and caution pool users not to prop the pool gate open for any reason. Other matters readers can note limit parking on garage aprons and ask owners not to leave trash containers out beyond the day of pickup. For clarification on any of our regulations please consult the Management Company.

Incidentally, the Curtis number is manned around the clock. Someone will answer your call and attempt to locate that individual who can speak to your question.

SPIRIT OF ST. LOUIS

In late 1997, the San Diego Aerospace Museum was requested to produce a full scale replica of the Spirit of St. Louis aircraft flown by Charles Lindbergh on his historic New York to Paris solo flight. The 3600 mile transatlantic flight took place May 20-21, 1927, and took 33 1/2 hrs. It now takes 5-6 hours. The original aircraft, now in the Smithsonian Institute, was built here in San Diego by Ryan Aeronautical.

A group of Aerospace Museum volunteers who are involved in the restoration of aircraft for the museum undertook the task. The volunteers are all retired aerospace and/or military personnel with many years of experience, capabilities, and talents.

An Outlook Point resident is one of these Museum volunteers. The airplane is very nearly completed, except for some last minute details. As further commemoration of Charles Lindbergh's accomplishment and as an enhancement to our airport, the replica will be suspended in the air in the new Terminal 2 building baggage claim area for all visitors to San Diego to view. The goal is to complete the aircraft in early January 1999.

SMOKE DETECTORS

Just a reminder, if your tree is dry, shedding needles or appears to be browning, it is time to have it removed. An overdry tree is a serious fire hazard. Also, as a safety reminder please make sure that you check the batteries in your smoke detectors this month to see if they are in proper working order.
