STREET SWEEPING

Your streets will be swept the 3rd Friday of each month between 7:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Do not park on the street or in guest parking areas during this period. Thank you.

DOGS YOU'LL MEET

Alex is a 4-yr-old spaniel mix from the San Diego Humane Society. Though she is easy going, she loves to be with someone at all times. To look at her is to know that eating is her favorite thing.

BOARD REORGANIZES

The HOA's officers for the 97-98 year are as follows: at Raymond "Skip" Kruszona, President; Steve Huddleston, Vice President; P W, Financial Officer; S M, Secretary; Hugh Souder, Director; Frank Toto, Director and John Marsh, Director.

ANOTHER REMINDER

Individuals who have had their dryer ducts cleaned out and who have seen for themselves the lint buildup urge others in the HOA to follow their example. Call, for instance, San Diego Air Duct Cleaning, 276-4356.

MIXED MESSAGES

A pool greenbelt resident called to say that she could let her 18-month-old daughter loose on the grass without fear of her getting into the stuff that dogs leave behind them. But then your editor noted an irate owner's sign on the same greenbelt: to the effect that dog owners should clean up after their pets -- or get rid of them.

VINTAGE VIDEOS

In, March, your editor recommended 42nd Street. Together with GOLD DIGGERS of 19'33 and FOOTLIGHT PARADE, this film helped Warner Bros. reinvent the musical film. Moreover, the teaming of Dick Powell and Ruby Keeler in all three films encouraged RKO to team Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers; and MGM to bring together Nelson Eddy and Jeanette MacDonald, the most famous singing team in the history of the movies.

Beginning with NAUGHTY MARIETTA (1935), their films spoke to Depression-era audiences in ways that is hard for us to comprehend. In particular, your editor recommends ROSE MARIE (36), the tale of a Mountie (Nelson) who gets not only his man -- a very young Jimmy Stewart -- but also Jeanette, who plays this individual's older sister. And he does so by singing 'Song of the Mounties," "Rose Marie" and "Indian Love Call"

It should be noted that such films are not for the faint of heart. Lemonwood Lane's Joyce Bliss had ROSE MARIE in her VCR for over a month before she could watch it all. But when the final credits did fade, she had witnessed the ability of a song to embody emotion, define character and advance action.

POOL CLEANING

At the end of April or the beginning of May our pool will close for five working days so that needed maintenance and cleaning can take place. Pool uses may recall that this is a yearly ritual -- to meet health and sanitation requirements. Those with questions should call Frank Toto.

CLUBHOUSE RENTAL

For a 90-day trial period beginning May 1st there will be a new fee scale for Clubhouse use: $25 for rental ending before 5:00 p.m. Mon-Thur; $75 for rental ending after 5 p.m. Fridays, weekends and throughout the month of December.

Renters are urged to read the new rental agreement carefully. For instance: the renter (unit owner) agrees to be specially assessed for any damages or cleaning costs to the clubhouse resulting from the rental use. If not paid within 30 days, this special assessment may be enforced in the same manner as a regular assessment against the unit of the owner concerned.

THEY'RE BACK. SNAKES

Experts say the conditions are just right and there are a lot of snakes out there this year. The ones to be concerned about of course are Rattlesnakes. Rattlesnakes prefer wooded areas near lakes and streams and usually shy away from areas where humans go. However, they will settle for wood piles and dense foliage near homes too. If you are walking or working outside, so not go barefoot. Wear boots. Rattlesnakes rarely strike above the ankle. Educate your children ... tell them never to touch a snake until it is identified. Most victims of snakes are nosy dogs who are sniffing around and get too close. If you come in contact with a Rattlesnake leave it alone. If it is in your home or garage, or will not leave your property, call Animal Control for assistance at 2364-250.
