ANNUAL MEETING

The Annual Meeting of the Villa Monterey Homeowners Association is scheduled for April 9th at 7:30 p.m. Registration begins at 7:00 p.m. Among other business: an election to fill two expired terms on the Board. Serving as a director can be a fulfilling experience.

FROM THE PRESIDENT

We need a Quorum at the Annual Meeting on Wednesday, April 9th. Please note that the Board of Directors meet at least 2 times each month to do the work of all the Association members. In return, we ask you to support us only once each year -- at the annual meeting. See you there.

FOUND

An adult bicycle has been found by Frank Toto. Should you believe it yours call Frank.

LANDSCAPING

Landscape activities during the next several months will concentrate on removing trees that are hazards to the community; more specifically, to forestall possible damage to newly completed roofs as well as to counter invasive root damage to foundation slabs, sewers, and sidewalks. On occasion, workman performing this work have been approached by homeowners to perform tasks not related to the contract. Please anticipate being billed for these additional services.

COYOTE ENCOUNTER

A resident on the pool greenbelt saw from her window a coyote strolling the sidewalk during the mid-morning hours of a recent Saturday. And she has the pictures to prove it. Owners of small children and small pets take note.

DOGS YOU'LL MEET

Parfait Sweet is an 8-year-old red Pomeranian on Pine Knoll. She's very much the boss of the house -- her favorite room, the kitchen. Otherwise, she loves to ride in cars and to sleep nights with her owner.

A CHALLENGE

Residents in the HOA may have noticed metal garage doors between 9817-41 Guisante Terrace in the COA. The latter are possible replacements for their wooden counterparts that have been in place for twenty and more years. It's an upgrade that the COA estimates may add $2,000 to the value of a given unit. At one and same time, the HOA is confronted with a similar challenge. As ours is the older Association, our problems may be a bit more acute. Initially, the weight of the doors was within the limits of what the door jambs would hold -- that may no longer be the case. Consider that the doors themselves have become heavier as paint and moisture have been absorbed. And we know cases in which of a number of the jambs have warped, causing the hinges to fail. Clearly, there is the potential for a serious accident. Your Board of Directors is watching the COA project closely. As an aside, a lone individual buying a garage door would pay between $650 and $800.

DRAINAGE

Should owners/tenants of E models discover a concentration of water after a rain in the vicinity of the sliding glass doors on the patio, contact Frank Toto.

CLUB HOUSE

Long-time residents of the HOA may remember the art work on the club house walls. But over the years, it vanished piece by piece. And when it came time to redecorate, there was nothing remaining. What to put in its place? John Marsh, the Director charged with overseeing the project, began looking and discovered the work of Carol Jablonsky prominently displayed at Old Town's Circle Gallery. To him, her prints seemed ideally suited for our clubhouse. Not least because her work is arresting in design, color, and composition but because it exudes an animated vitality which is a constant delight to the eye.

And at just this juncture the gallery made it possible for the Association to purchase a selection of her prints -signed and numbered by the artist -- at a fraction of their original cost. As well, Tierrasanta's own Featherwind Gallery framed them most attractively at a cost that reflects a commitment to community service. Those who attend the annual meeting will have a chance to admire Jablonsky's subtle, almost mysterious hues and soft voluminous shapes. Please note that the art work is held in place with security hangers that make it all but impossible to remove the frames from the wall.
